How high does link-chance have to climb before nobody is left without a contact? Gray contact lines flash orange for one tick, 6% of them each tick, so the link layer is easy to spot.
Try this Raise link-chance from 45 to 90 and press Reset. average-degree rises to about 1.8 and only one or two people stay unlinked; at 100 nobody does, because everyone creates a link.
About this model A minimal MathPets model for checking that links behave as first-class agents: people are pets, and contacts are undirected links with their own state and style. It doubles as a small random-graph exercise: how many people end up with no contact?
Setup scatters population people at random, then each one, with probability link-chance percent, links to one randomly chosen other person; two people who pick each other share one link. force-layout runs 30 relaxation passes. Each tick every link resets to gray and 6% of them, chosen at random, turn orange for that tick. Both params apply at setup.
With each person linking with probability p, the average degree comes out close to 2p, and a person ends up isolated with probability about (1 − p)·e^(−p): about 14 of 40 people at the default 45%, about 2 at 90%, and none at 100%.
